The images that introduce each chapter of Taranyali Tridha Dhyanam, The Threefold Meditations of the Thunder Dragon, by Sundernath (Shandor Remete) are taken from a series of 36 paintings, entitled SIMILTUDE OF A DREAM. They had their origin in an actual dream, that came over a decade ago, in which Sundernath (Shandor) played the central part. I painted the series a couple of years later, after the experience of the dream had been deeply assimilated and had time to do it’s inner work.
For me the process of painting is as much a Sadana as is the practice of Yoga. The original paintings are all aquarelle on Arches paper. The selection exhibited in conjunction with the launch of Sundernath’s book are all the result furthering this process. The original paintings were photographed and then printed on Arches 300gm paper, calibrated lighter than the original work. This was then over painted with aquarelle, making each piece a unique and individual work in it’s own right. The result is a beautiful weaving together of ancient and authentic yoga practice with contemporary creative practice.
